Jim was keen to try the emerging sport of skiing in the 1950s

He went on a holiday to Zermatt where he made some lifelong friends
with whom he sailed for the rest of their lives

In the cold winters of Jim's early adulthood the Brittons enjoyed skating

It looks like these are the ponds in Sutton Park; they are somewhere near the Walmley home

The standard of skating, and the fact that Jim and Peggy had their own skates,
suggests this was not a rare event
